I need to say this plainly, so you don’t carry it as a question.

What happened between the adults in your life was not about you. You did not cause it. There is nothing you could have done differently.

You were babies. Then small children. You were loved completely in every moment of it. If your mind has ever asked the question, and children’s minds do ask, the answer is no. You were not the reason. You were the best thing.

I lost the ability to reach you because of things that had nothing to do with who you were. You could not have earned my presence, and you could not have lost it. It was never yours to control.

I’m your father. You were loved before you were born, every day I held you, every day I couldn’t, and you are loved now as you read this.

That has never once been in question.
