You were born on a Saturday in February 2021 at Da Nang Hospital for Women and Children. The world was still in the middle of the pandemic and everything was strange. You weren't. You arrived bright and curious from the first day.

I called you Roo. You called me Daddy. You were my little buddy before you could even walk. You followed me around the house, got into everything I was doing, wanted to be part of every project. That's who you were.

You were born on a full moon in Pisces with Virgo watching. That meant nothing to you then and probably nothing to you now. What it meant was that you felt everything deeply and noticed everything clearly. Even at three and four years old, you saw the room.

You played with my audio equipment. You wanted to be in every photo. You made your sister laugh with raspberry noises. You were the best big brother from the moment she arrived.

I don't know how old you are as you read this. I don't know what story you were told about why I wasn't there. Here is the truth - I loved you from before you were born. I loved you every day I was with you. I loved you every day I couldn't reach you. Nothing changes that. Nothing ever will.

You're half Goan Catholic, half Vietnamese. You come from a long line of people who crossed oceans for their families. That's in you too.
